Tiger Horse: A modern breed that strives to re-create the horses that were brought to the Americas by the Spanish. Our horses come from the very best Annandale stock. They have been selected and bred for color, gait, and personality and are registered through TIGRE (the Tiger Horse registry). Although the Tiger Horse is a new and developing breed, it is based on historical horses. There are many examples of spotted, gaited horses in ancient Asian art. It is thought that these Oriental horses were imported to Spain and crossed with the local Iberian and Barb type horses since before the birth of Christ. These horses are often portrayed in Spanish art of the 1100's through the 1400's. Horses of this type were brought to the Americas by Spanish conquistadors. Tigre means "wildly colored", which describes many Tiger Horses. Today's Tiger Horse is an all-around breed. Many are used as trail mounts, but others work cattle or are used as hunting mounts (as in elk hunting). Some are actively competing in Competitive Trail Rides (CTR) and Endurance. They are known for their people-pleasing dispositions, flashy looks, and smooth gaited ride.
